While passing through Savoy in the south-east of France closed to the Alps, a wine-growing area unknown also  – I think – to French people, I stopped in a shop selling organic products only, looking at the wine corner: and I get advice.

Apremont is an AOC Vin de Savoie, white wine whose grape variety is Jacquère, obviously autochthonous, produced 10 km far from Chambéry. The winery is Domaine Giachino which since 2006 has been producing organic wines earning the AB (“Agriculture Biologique”) mark and “Nature et Progrès” certification.

Always curious to discover and try everything that is new and unexplored, in addition to being inevitably attracted by the originality of the label, I did not hesitate on the choice … and even 24 hours later the bottle is ready for tasting.

Well, even as a neophyte of these French high mountain Savoyard vines, I was incredibly surprised by its high quality: the colour is straw yellow, very soft, the perfume is a delicate aroma of citrus, bergamot, light apple and white flowers hints. And in the mouth the acidity gives that correct contribution of freshness and light salinity perfectly balanced by a good level of softness. It is a light wine, both for the alcohol content (11.7% vol) and for its structure: for this reason I recommend it to accompany pasta with vegetable sauces or cheese-based dishes such as fondue, raclette and – staying on the local food – a tasty tartiflette stuffed with reblochon.

I do not deny that a visit to this winery, to be considered almost a neighbour for me, is on my top priorities: for now, I limit myself to savouring their excellent product.
