Crémant de Limoux is part of the wide French appellations Crémant which can be a respectable alternative to the French, universal Champagne.
We are always talking about classic or traditional fermentation method, then second fermentation in the bottle and at least nine months of aging in the bottle.
There are 8 French AOCs of Crémant, the most famous is probably Crémant d’Alsace: but let’s discover this bottle of Crémant de Limoux Clos des Demoiselles Tête de Cuvée Brut from Domaine J. Laurens.
The assembly of 60% Chardonnay, 25% Chenin and 15% Pinot Noir brings a floral and at the same time very fine citrus bouquet, but only after a few moments the note of yeast, bread crust, butter is released … beautiful feeling, just the one that I was looking for in this – give me the term – alternative champagne (not surprisingly, the founder of this winery was a champagne producer).
Even the shape of the bottle and its label denote a certain research of refinement and as appearance counts too, it is to be considered a plus value.
I therefore confirm that this Crémant de Limoux can certainly compete with a Champagne, not only for quality, but also (and definitively) for price. A wine that can go perfectly with the whole meal, from an aperitif to fish or not too tasty meat dishes , but for anyone who is a champagne lover, I leave free space to fantasy for its best matching.
