An attitude that has been my own since I have nurtured a passion for wine, is to test whether what I read and heard around a brand is true and authentic.

Pieropan is – essentially though not only – synonymous of Soave, a Veneto DOC appelation from the province of Verona consisting mostly of autoctonous Garganega grapes (between 70% and 100%), complemented by Trebbiano di Soave (also autoctonous), Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc.
Pieropan is four generations of winemakers: “Vignaioli dal 1880” shows the label.
Pieropan is a winery well-known in Italy, but also and especially abroad.
Pieropan is history & innovation, attention to the terroir and organic practices.

So I ask myself: will it be true?
To verify, I must start with the youngest wine of the house: the Soave Classico (75% Garganega, 15% Trebbiano di Soave).

First of all, the bottle: its shape typical of Riesling wine (which I love) and its old-style label, they attract me terribly. But let’s proceed with the tasting.

The color is a very clear straw yellow: floral notes of white flowers such as linden, hawthorn, elderflower but extremely delicate and light are released on the nose. But when I taste it, the minerality is something irresistible: the note of flint invades and thanks to its freshness invites you to never stop enjoying it, sip after sip. Its sapidity engraves the flavor and persists for a long time, even in memory!

Very suitable for a simple aperitif, perfect with vegetable dishes such as soups, superb with fish dishes. I tried it with swordfish rolls accompanied by grilled vegetable skewers: divine!

Thus I can confirm everything: Pieropan is the true expression of quality of Soave DOC without any doubt. At this point I just have to continue in my search for certainties and next steps will be discorvering the Crus of Pieropan, Calvarino and La Rocca: see you next time!
