I can’t imagine anything else while tasting Terre Alte by Livio Felluga, Rosazzo DOCG 2018.

The history of this winery is fascinating, to say the least. A company that has survived two Wars and that in the 1950s, while the mass was heading towards the city, swimming against the tide, they believed in the value of the land by purchasing the first vineyards of the Rosazzo hills in the Colli Orientali del Friuli.

A story that began in Istria and then continued in Friuli, a region that made Livio Felluga the patriarch of its wines from the 155 hectares cultivated with utmost dedication and persistent love of the lands, which have always been represented on the label as the “wines of the geographical map”, the map of the hills drawn by Livio Felluga himself in 1956.

It is amazing how the scent of this wine is extremely complex and variable minute by minute. As soon as it is opened, a spring of scents is released: flowers, flowers, and more flowers, especially wild ones. Acacia, hawthorn, heather, jasmine. Then a few minutes later, also thanks to the small variation in temperature, a light fruity note of green apple appears and a nice aromatic note of thyme and marjoram appears. It has rarely happened to me to savor such a complex and varied bouquet, a discovery sip after sip.

On the palate, what strikes me first of all is its softness: a real velvet, warm sensation (the alcohol content is still 13.5% vol); the complexity of the nose is found in perfect harmony with a very light vanilla note. Very persistent and long taste, indelible over time.

Now, this is one of those wines whose flavors remain over time, even for me who am a forgetful by nature.
Perfect with fish-based dishes: I paired it with a pasta with fresh squid sauce (warning: count at least an hour and a half for their cleaning …!).

This wine was a gift from my husband: it’s hard to admit, but this time he did nothing wrong.
