Giving a woman flowers is always a moment of pleasant surprise: even for a person like me who is million miles from having a green thumb (I can even kill succulents …), receiving a floral gift, from the simple rose to the most majestic bouquet of flowers of all kinds and colors, it is always an immense pleasure. But if you really want to impress, combining a bottle of Champagne with flowers is a guarantee of success. And if the Champagne mentioned above is a bottle of Blanc de Blancs Brut Barons de Rothschild … well, I can’t find the right words. Amazing? Incredible? Seductive? Unmatched?
I believe I have a fairly rough experience in the field of French bubbles, neverthless when I opened this bottle, I was nothing short of speechless.
But first things first, let’s start from the beginning. The perlage: it is fine, continuous, compact, extremely persistent and very very fine.
But it is on nose that I am dazzled: it is the first time that I notice such an olfactory intensity from a champagne: it goes from candied orange peel to the fragrant note of pastry, dried fruit, freshly baked croissants… wow. And in the mouth I can retrieve all these notes supported by a pleasant freshness. Very long, fascinating, silence is almost necessary to keep concentrated and not losing any nuance that is released minute by minute.
It is no a coincidence that this Blanc de Blancs Brut is obtained only from Chardonnay grapes coming exclusively from the Crus of the Côte des Blancs (Avize, Cramant, Mesnil-sur-Oger et Oger) with an aging of at least 4 years and resting, after degorgement , in bottle for at least 6-9 months in the Caves of Barons de Rothschild.
Elegance that also seduces in the design of its bottle with a minimally invasive and almost monotonous labeling.
The pairing is extremely simple: it goes very well in an aperitif, but it is thoroughly appreciated in combination with lobster and shellfish. And also with a beautiful bouquet of flowers.
