We are in the heart of the Langhe in the village of La Morra (CN – Italy), the undisputed land of Barolo, one of the most precious and sumptuous wines. Climbing to the top of the village, I stopped in a winery of Barolo : the San Biagio winery in Santa Maria.
You can breathe in the sense of tradition, family, passion, all values that, as good Piedmontese, are perhaps a little hidden by a certain sense of humility and simplicity.
Talking about vinification: theBarolo San Biagio can be submitted to up to a month and a half of maceration, resting in large oak barrels before moving on to aging in smaller barrels with intermediate filtration steps.

And what about tasting:
I tasted Barolo Sorano 2012 and Barolo Bricco San Biagio 2013: the first is produced in the village of Serralunga d’Alba from vineyards facing south-east / south-west and has a pleasant spicy note, tobacco and cloves, very intense note. The second, which comes from a historic vineyard in the hills of La Morra, facing east / south-east, has a more delicate scent, floral, slightly balsamic, but always with very intense and round aroma.
We will have to wait a few more years to appreciate the best of these great wines, waiting for the tannins to leave the place to all the best aroma that the King Barolo can give. A true Piedmontese wine: silent, but that can only surprise. And let’s wait.
