I consider the Aeolian Islands one of the most fascinating places to live. In particular, the Salina island is the one I prefer and the Hauner winery is indeed located on the Salina island. Carlo Hauner, designer and painter born in Brescia and of Bohemian origins, moved to this enchanting island in the Sixties and created two great works: the rebirth of Malvasia delle Lipari and the presentation to the world of the Salina capers .
Let’s go back to Hierà, the ancient name of the Island of Vulcano from which the grapes used for this Sicilian red come: the label depicts the “Sciara del Fuoco” (talus scree) of Stromboli island, painted by Hauner in 1978. A minimalist Sciara, a bright red cut that almost remember a tear … of wine.

Hierà Terre Siciliane Rosso IGT, a blend of Calabrese, Alicante and Nocera, is an explosion of black berries and red fruits; quite fresh, very soft (despite being relatively young, 2020 vintage). After a few minutes, a note of ink and leather is perceived. It was a surprise: a very versatile red wine, I could drink it with everything: appetizers, first courses, meat or fish. Up to you.
