Portugal is often associated with the typical fortified wine Porto, much less known for its wines.
It happens to taste a Cartuxa, an assemblage of Aragonês, Alicante Bouschet and Trincadeira.
It is a ruby red wine with a very intense aroma with clear notes of ripe fruit, plum and cherry above all, also supported by notes of toasted and vanilla provided by aging in barrique. In mouth the heat sensation released by the alcohol content is clearly perceived (14.5% vol!), contrasted by a good tannic component that does not disturb at all.
Well, a wine worthy of note that can perfectly match with tasty meat dishes: I tried it with polenta and sausage and it was a success!
