Castello Romitorio is another example of a winery that has divinely combined wine with art. The owner, the eclectic artist of the Italian transavantgarde Sandro Chia, bought in 1984 what was at that time a ruin, transforming it into an oenological and artistic laboratory and recovering what the Montalcino area could offer: intriguing Super Tuscans and excellent Brunellos.
“I am like a laboratory and I need my tools: I face the theme of wine like that of a painting”: these are the words of Sandro Chia.

Romitòro Toscana IGT is a blend of Syrah and Petit Verdot, vinified in steel vats followed by a passage in cement. Its bouquet is direct, fresh, clean: red fruit, violet, but also notes of undergrowth and a light spicy note supported by vigorous tannins (I tried the 2019). An excellent Super Tuscan (at a very fair price) that can perfectly accompany a good dish of venison.
