We are going to taste a Champagne of the most prestigious French Maisons, a Ruinart Blanc de Blancs.
As a matter of interest, Ruinart is the oldest Maison in the Champagne region, born thanks to the intuition of a 23 year old monk Dom Thierry Ruinart who at the end of the seventeenth century believed in the great potential of the “vin de bulles” of the time; intuition subsequently confirmed by his nephew Nicolas Ruinart who in 1729 founded the first Champagne Maison in Reims.
This is how the fame and prestige of this brand are perpetuated up to the present day.
But what does the tasting tell us?
This Ruinart Blanc de Blancs, 100% Chardonnay, has a bright straw yellow color: its bubbles are fine and very persistent.
Its scent is a perfect symbiosis of citrus, cedar, lime notes elegantly supported by a delicate note of yeast and bread crust; straight, with a nice minerality and a long and persistent finish.
But what fascinates me most about this Ruinart Blanc de blancs is its ease: it is certainly the ideal wine to accompany refined and elegant dishes based on fish, oysters or shellfish, but it can also be perfectly combined with a simple aperitif with friends, such as it was in my case.
So, after all, a Ruinart Blanc de Blancs is perfect for any occasion, even more appreciated if the occasion is a special occasion for a toast with people, friends or family, definitely special.
